Political discussion between a four year old and an art major who got a C in governement

“What are they talking about, Mama?”

“A lady who wants to be president.”

“What were they saying about her? Why did she say she has battle scars?”

So I explained what they were saying. They were saying that she used to be really stubborn. Like if she had an idea and people said okay but we aren’t going to do your exact idea, we’re going to do something similar but just not exactly what you wanted, she would throw a fit and say No! It has to be done MY exact way! And she wouldn’t change her mind about things even if she found out more information and reasons why it might be good to do something else.

“So why are they saying that’s going to make her not be president?”

“Well, they’re saying that even though she’s not like that as much anymore, she used to be and people think of that whenever they hear her name. And the problem is we have a president right now who does that, and people are not happy with him at all.”

“Who is he?”

“George Bush.”

“Oh. I’ve heard about him on the radio.”

“Yeah. Well, a lot of people aren’t happy with him right now, so they don’t want the next president to be that same way.”

“Why don’t they? Why don’t people like him?”

“Well, like they’re saying here. The biggest thing I guess is that he won’t listen and won’t ever work with other people for different ideas and won’t ever change his mind about stuff.”

“Like what things did he not change his mind about?”

“Well… okay. Like this war. He decided we needed to have this war, and lots of people said why don’t we do this or this instead and he said NO I AM RIGHT we have to do things MY way. And then once the war started, people had different ideas about how to win it and he didn’t really listen. He wanted to do things like his exact way.”

“Does he like… does he throw fits about it?”

“Kind of. Yeah.”

“That’s why we never go visit him.” He nodded with certainty, “Isn’t it?”

“Yes. Exactly. That’s why we never go visit him.”

Damn, I’ll say it again, your kid is a genius. I’m with winecat – if only he could convince the rest of the country that stubbornness is not necessarily a positive quality!
