A different kind of man.

I’ve been working like crazy on a website. It’s good! We’re determined to focus on paying off all of our debt, so projects are good. But it’s bad because it has stopped me from:
* Cleaning my house
* Participating in social norms involving personal hygiene /food consumption /leaving the house ever
* Parenting
* Working on the new nerd art pieces which are so very cool in my head, but don’t exist yet
* Emailing or calling any of the few friends I have/used to have
* Uploading this video of Graham talking at length about one of his favorite topics: Barack Obama is a different kind of man

Now, as it turns out if you go to YouTube and search for Barack Obama + two year old, there’s a lot of videos. Who knew? It’s a whole big thing out there! The difference is that the parents are teaching their kids to say cute things about who is going to be the next president? Whooo? And the kid yells Obama! And Yay!!

Which is pretty cool and all. But Graham’s is mainly entertaining to me because it is so damned random. We didn’t coach him or even talk to him about Obama at all. We don’t even have a TV. He’s picked this up from pieces of conversations, and maybe a little on the radio. The rest comes straight out of his weird little head.

And yes, it would have killed me to clean up my studio a little bit before filming.

    Graham’s right.

    Mama, Mama, Barack Obama!

  2. Heather Says:

The beginning of that video is one of the funniest things I’ve seen all week. Awesome.

  3. mamaunit1 Says:

well,i actually think the very end was the funniest. this was a treat!

  4. a.k.ard Says:

    Too cute!

  5. electric boogaloo Says:

Kevin says I should trim out the part where he’s drawing, because the end is the funniest. But he’s drawing! Barack Obama NEEDS FEET.

  6. Manda Says:

Oh. My. God. That was hilarious. I just about peed myself laughing at that. The end was a wonderful twist. If you can find any way AT ALL, I would send that to Obama’s campaign people. If, by some twist of fate it makes it to him, he’ll laugh heartily. What red (and blue) blooded American wouldn’t?

  7. zenoma Says:

    O.M.G.

I now. know. what you mean! How Graham. talks. in periods. and exclamations! Too cute!

    I. could. eat him up!

  8. Genevieve Says:

So so so frigging hilarious! Graham is fabulous.
I agree with Manda – send it to Obama!

  9. Toni Says:

I agree – send it to the campaign – they would LOVE it. From what I’ve read about the people of the campaign – they are pretty ‘cool’ about things like this :)

LOVE it. Makes me feel good that I made multiple shirts that say Obama ‘08 – way before they were useful!

  10. mamaunit1 Says:

i am with everyone else tiffany….send the damn graham video to that different man. if they run it as a tv ad the man will be our next president!

    thank you graham.

  11. Gillian Says:

I am so in love with this little guy and his crisp ending consonants. I am besotted with the tiny little crinkly frown he gets when he asks ‘What’s Barack Obama?’ And his present is a light. Man alive I am glad I don’t live next door to you or I would never go home. Even if you pointedly asked I would just sit gazing at your amazing boys.

  12. kathleen999 Says:

that was hysterical…and he is so verbal! My boys aren’t nearly that verbal.

What really was freaking me out about this video was your voice…however did you manage to steal MY voice? You sound almost exactly like me, inflections, tone, timbre, everything. And I know voices…I am a singer. Very weird.

  13. Squirl Says:

That ending was absolutely perfect. I’m supposed to be running end of fiscal year budget reports right now. But how the hell can I do that when watching Graham is so much more fun. Thanks for sharing.

And I didn’t notice anything about a studio being messy. Too busy looking at the cuteness.

  14. Brainy girl Says:

Yes, yes, yes! Send it to the campaign! They might have to edit it down, but this is gold! Also, just how old is Graham? 2 right? But how close to 3? I don’t think my 2 1/2 year old even has the CONCEPT of actually drawing something specific – it’s just random lines and circles and dots and whatnot. Mind you, not an arty bone in my body (or my husband’s). Dang, your kids are impressive in SO many ways!!

  15. Julie Says:

I did not even notice your studio because your kid is so. damn. cute! I am always saying to my husband “hey, listen to what Graham and ‘Nicoliss’ said now!” Love this video!

  16. Maggie Says:

I missed the video…it’s no longer available? :(

  17. electric boogaloo Says:

Maggie, it seems to be working now… Sorry you had trouble! If playing it here doesn’t work, go to the YouTube page:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Y0rTyqRxVM

(One thought: Are you at work? Some companies block youtube just to be jerks)

  18. Accidental Poet Says:

    The ending is HILARIOUS.

I think what we need now is video of Graham’s tiny princess, and his mitten hands.
Also I need Graham to come and vist me on a regular basis :) but that’s a bit trickier.

  19. largirl Says:

Oh. My. God. I am in love with your son. My ovaries are kicking me. I love how he pronounces his words and pauses between each one – I totally get the formatting of your Graham quotes now.

P.S. You Tube is blocked at work, so I had to look it up on my iPhone. That right there made it worth the $500.

  20. Sharon Says:

That was the cutest thing ever. Accidental Poet is right, though, can we get some video of Mitten Hand?

I realized the other day that I talk about your site and your boys constantly. I was telling a friend how Nicolaus woke up and said that pain was spreading “like the Roman empire.” Because that is STILL the coolest thing I have ever heard. My friend was also very impressed.

  21. zarqa Says:

I’m neurotic about leaving the tv off while my 11 month old is around and aware. But there’s no reason I can’t listen to NPR, right? Thanks for inspiring that idea.:)
    Your boy is captivating!

  22. vanessa Says:

I really don’t understand why we are not seeing more video of the boys, because that was the cutest damn thing I have seen in a long, long time.

  23. Accidental Poet Says:

hey it’s just occurred to me that possibly Nicolas the Nature Scout might be interested in this blog:

    http://www.plettrobincam.blogspot.com

We’ve got a webcam on a robin’s nest on our back deck. I try to update the site at least once a day with new video of the four babies, and a few still shots as well.

  24. electric boogaloo Says:

Oh my gosh robins!! They are all (including Kevin) going to love that.

  25. Accidental Poet Says:

YAY!!! Please get SOMEONE to leave a comment if you go there??

  26. winecat Says:

OMG just when I think they cannot possibly get any cuter or smarter Graham comes up with this. Yes I agree Barack Obama needs feet. The ending COULD. NOT. GET. ANY. BETTER.

Send it to the campaign they’ll love it.

  27. electric boogaloo Says:

Tonight he told me, “Barack Obama is my favorite man I ever seened!”

I’m not 100% sure he’s even seen a picture of Obama. Kids are so weird.

  28. Sheetal Says:

The surprise ending totally got me!! That is one hilarious child. I. think. i. need. to. have. another. little. one.

  29. Chelsea Says:

LOL! What a cute kid. I absolutely love the way he talks. I agree with the other, must have videos of Mitten Hand, because that is the cutest damn thing I have ever heard of.
