Play that mild depressive-statey music, White boy.

Don’t know why I felt quiet this week. I’ve been increasingly in a gloomy funk. Why? Not sure. The flurry of summer visitors is over, my biggest steady work=money contract ended, and it’s hot outside. I have a big troublesome gut, and my hair needs a trim. Blah, it’s not any of those things though. Not sure what my problem is.

So even though sleeping 18 hours a day sounds pretty appealing, I’ve been forcing myself to work on art a little each day. Each time I press forward on the projects I feel a tiny bit better. Today Kevin was home so I put him in charge of loosely supervising our children, and I focused on art all day. There’s this little show in September called 7 of 7. Seven artists contributing seven pieces each.

So today was good. Big progress on my seven pieces. I’m doing all seven in sort of a plexiglass/plastic + science + Tiffany likes birds theme. It has a very complex and intractable inner meaning, which I’m sure I’ll come up with in time for the show. For now though: oooh pretty!

These are prototypes, not finished pieces. But still, I’m having a lot of fun painting on test tubes, petri dishes, and little observation and measurement vials.

Wow, that is cool! You are so creative. I love this work!

Ok, the testtube bird… I love this! and the petri dishes… yum. Bird in the block thing is wicked cool. There is a whole “science as observer” art history bull shit theory I will spare you. Just know I am in love. Will you be selling the prototypes also?

  3. Jillian Says:

That’s some lovely stuff. I particularly like the bird on the test tubes. I would get a mood lift if I made that too.

  4. Shaylind Standing Says:

    Oooh! Pretty.
I should have my husband do that kid watching thing so I can get some art done…

  5. Bucky Four-Eyes Says:

This is the best use of test tubes I’ve seen since shooters at the bar!

Love the clouds and sky in the petri dishes! Very cool concepts you have going in & out of your brain these days. The bird in the box one looks great. And sort of creepy. :)

It is always a bummer for me when the planned excitement of the summer is over and all there is left are the unstructured days. I am not good with unstructured. But, then, I don’t have any art to keep me busy.

Hope you take pics and show us of the final pcs for the show!

The process of creating just stuns me. I don’t want to come across like an idiot but it’s like seeing a little glimmer of higher power!

You’re totally awesome….troublesome gutt and all!

    ABSO-LUTE-LEEEE FABULOUSITY!!!

    Your work is amazing.

I like the stuff in the petri dish theme as it reminds me of a toy I had as a child where it was colored sand in the plexiglass. Could spend hours just watching the sand go back and forth.

You need more sunshine, the teensiest bit of exercize possible and good quality sleep.

Much sun at all is bad for your skin but a tiny bit seems to be essential to producing something that we all need to not become villans.

Quality sleep is a good thing. There’s plenty of time for laying around all day after you are dead.

If jumping up and down fifty times wipes you out then every day should include 10 flights of stairs, slowly at first.

This is THE prescription for anti-depression, and outliving your parents. Also for creativity. I don’t know why.

These are AWESOME!!! If these are just prototypes, I can’t WAIT to see the finished ones. :)

Wow is right. I love your stuff so much - it really hits just the right vibe with me. This stuff in particular is so cool to me, as I’m a chemist and an artist, and it’s not very often you see science and art combined in such a flowing, peaceful, uncontrived way. It’s amazing. Thanks so much for sharing it!

I know just what you mean…I am in the midsummer funk too…none of my clothes fit right, its too dang hot, and my hair is suddenly completely unmanageable. Blah!

On the bright side, your art is wonderful! I love the E=MC2 elephant moving the rock print that now hangs in my son’s bedroom. Yay!

I love that test tube set. In fact if I were completely honest I scrolled through the pictures and when I laid eyes on the test tube set I sat forward and thought “I want that!” complete with that “rush” you get when you see something you really, really want. :D

  15. Angela Says:

THAT IS SO COOL. Those petri dishes are SO COOL. So different from other art! I love it.

  16. Jessica Says:

Those are awesome! If I were still teaching, I’d want those in my classroom!!

    You are way too cool!!
